The Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has said that new restrictions may need to be enforced in border counties after this morning’s developments in Northern Ireland.
A 4-week lockdown circuit breaker is to be enforced in Northern Ireland in an effort to break the spread of the pandemic.
Varadkar said that counties Monaghan, Cavan and Donegal are all very bad case numbers-wise and may see their restrictions increased from Level 3 now as a result of today’s news. He didn’t mention county Louth where numbers have decreased in recent days.
It’s understood that schools will remain open in the South regardless of even a Level 5 lockdown.
The government is due to meet with NPHET again tomorrow to discuss further measures.
