In what has been described as absolutely unprecedented – Dr Tony Holohan said that it’s not only recommended but expected than anyone who has an upcoming wedding with more than 100 people can not go ahead.
The measures come after Leo Varadkar said that anyone with a mass gathering of over 100 people indoors or more than 500 people outdoor must be cancelled.
The government said that these are social and public gatherings, not workplace gatherings.
Holohan said that there will be an update on how many cases Ireland has later today. He said that Italy have faced a very, very big challenge.
