The Minister of State for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration has announced a swift security review of all International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS) centres following an arson attack on a facility in Drogheda.
Five people, including four children and a baby, were rescued from the top floor of the building housing international protection applicants on Friday night.
Speaking on RTÉ’s This Week programme, Colm Brophy emphasised that safety is the top priority and all centres will be reviewed as soon as possible.
Mr Brophy described it as a “truly shocking crime”, saying the video he had seen was “truly shocking” and that placing accelerant on a stairway posed serious risks to anyone trying to escape.
