Gardai have announced that a woman aged in her 20s is fighting for her life this morning after being attacked on a street in Ennis, Co Clare on Thursday night by a man.
Gardai say that the attack took place in the Market Square area of the town shortly before 6pm.
The woman was taken to University Hospital Limerick where her condition was described as critical and life threatening.
A man aged in his 30s has been arrested by Gardaí and is currently detained in Shannon Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice.
Gardai have requested witnesses to contact them on the Confidential Line on 1800-66-61-11.
