Kyran was reported missing to gardaà in Drogheda in August 2024. Officers were initially told he had not been seen for a few days, but it later emerged that he had actually been missing for almost two years by that point. His school had been informed in the summer of 2022 that he would not be returning for the following term.
Gardaà in Drogheda launched a murder investigation and searched a house in the area.
In December 2024, a woman who had been living in the UK was arrested in connection with the investigation but was later released without charge.
A 36-year-old man who knew her, Anthony Maguire, was also arrested on suspicion of Kyran’s murder. Gardaà searched his home at Beechwood Drive in Drogheda. He was suspected of providing false information to Tusla about Kyran’s disappearance. Maguire was released without charge and was found dead at his home six days later. Gardaà are treating his death as a personal tragedy.
Investigations remain ongoing.
