Taoiseach Micheál Martin described his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Shannon Airport as very warm and very good.
President Zelensky briefly stopped at the airport while traveling to the United States to meet with US President Donald Trump.
Martin noted that President Zelensky expressed deep gratitude to the Irish people for their consistent support of Ukraine.
The Taoiseach explained that their conversation touched on the need for any peace agreement to resolve the three-year conflict to what he said would need to be sustainable, comprehensive, and durable.
He emphasized that achieving this would require “significant security guarantees to support any ceasefire and, ultimately, lasting peace.”
