Breakthrough: Newly developed vaccine for babies could prevent children developing asthma later in life

There could be a potential breakthrough in the fight against asthma as scientists believe they have created a vaccine that could protect children from the breathing disorder.

According to researchers at the University of Alabama ,Birmingham babies could be protected from developing the illness if they are fed probiotic before the age of two.

Scientists say the new treatment has had success when experimented on newborn mice when they are given a dose of bacteria.

However unfortunately the revolutionary immunisation method does not work when children are older.

Speaking about the discovery Professor John Kearney, said: “It is pretty amazing. “We started doing neonatal immunisations in all three asthma models, and we found all three were protected against asthma like symptoms.”
