Breakthrough: Scientists develop pill that could potentially cure tinnitus

There could be good news for patients who suffer from tinnitus as scientists have developed a pill that could potentially treat the illness.

The condition which causes ringing in the ears, loss of hearing, anxiety and sleep issues, could potentially be cured in the near future following a successful trial in Arizona.

In a ground breaking trial scientists have developed a drug that stops brain inflammation in mice.

Although the drug has yet to be tested on humans, PLOS Biology say the latest developments have been shown to work when it comes to neuro-inflammation.

It is thought that tinnitus is caused by the loss of sensory hair cells in the cochlea, which occurs due to old age or prolonged exposure to loud music.
