Ireland is expected to enjoy sunshine over the next ten days, with temperatures above the seasonal average for May, according to Met Éireann, reports RTE.
Deputy Head Forecaster Elizabeth Coleman said parts of the west could see highs of up to 24 degrees Celsius today and possibly again tomorrow.
“We’ll continue that way really through the week, so lovely sunny weather across the country,” she said, reports RTE.
“Temperatures dropping slightly back to maybe late teens, early 20s, as we go towards the end of the week and the weekend, but lots of sunshine for most people across the country, so get out there and enjoy it while you can,” she added, reports RTE.

Speaking to RTÉ’s Today with Claire Byrne, Ms Coleman noted that while some potentially heavy showers could occur—mainly in southern and western areas today and tomorrow—these will be scattered.
She explained the pleasant conditions are due to high pressure that has remained over the country for the past week.
“It’s going to continue for the next week as well. We’ll just have slight incursions of those low-pressure systems that are bringing those showers up over the southern part for the next few days. But it looks in the forecast for the next ten days that we will have sunny high pressure with those temperatures late teens to early 20s,” reports RTE.
Ms Coleman also mentioned that temperatures could climb further towards the end of May, and forecasters will be watching closely to see if any records are broken for this time of year.
She noted that soil moisture levels are “running very low” and advised gardeners to be mindful of water usage, as there is little rain expected.
“I know that a lot of people will head towards coastal areas or along our waterways for the weekend, so we just ask people to think about safety on the water and think about safety in the sun as they get out and enjoy the weather,” she said, reports RTE.
