Tributes paid to 22-yr-old father of two who died in crash between car and lorry

A man who died after a road crash involving a car and a lorry in Co Antrim last week has been identified as Gabriel Johnston, a young father of two, reports The Mirror.

Gabriel, aged 22 and from the Belfast area, was taken to hospital after the collision, which happened on Sheepwalk Road in Lisburn shortly after 5pm on Tuesday, May 6.

The PSNI have now confirmed that Gabriel succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash, and they have appealed to the public for information.

Inspector Cherith Adair, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Police received a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry at Sheepwalk Road, at shortly after 5pm on Tuesday 6th May. Officers attended the scene, alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. Gabriel Johnston, who was 22 years old and from the Belfast area, and was the driver of the car, was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries following the collision but has since sadly passed away. Our investigation to establish the circumstances of the collision is ongoing, and we would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage which could assist with our enquiries. Heartfelt tributes have been shared in memory of the young man, who had become a father for the second time last August.

In a touching tribute posted on social media, Gabriel’s partner Meghann wrote: “Never thought i would have to write this so soon my bestfriend grew his angel wings. Today my heart is absolutely broken, reports The Mirror.

“You were my bestfriend. I don’t know what me Daire and Dva are going to do without you. I will love you for the rest of my life please watch over us I will forever miss your beautiful cheeky smile,” reports The Mirror.

A close friend of Gabriel said: “Rest easy wee man a gentleman you were. Look over your friends and family through the dark days ahead R.I.P,” reports The Mirror.

Sinn Féin Councillor for North Belfast, Ryan Murphy, also shared a message of sympathy: “Heartbreaking to hear the news on the tragic passing of young Gabriel Johnston. Thinking of his own young family, wider family and his friends at this time.

I know many within the Ligoniel Community are shocked at this news but will rally behind his family and friends at this time,” reports The Mirror.
