Bring it on! Met Eireann say the weather is about to significantly pick up with a 2-week spell of good weather on the way

After weeks and months of persistent rainfall, the weather is set for a major shift, with the country expected to enjoy a prolonged spell of dry and sunny conditions over the next two weeks.

It has been an unusually wet year so far, with January 2026 recorded as the wettest since 2018 and February seeing 119% of its average long-term rainfall, reports The Mirror.

However, a leading meteorologist has said that rainfall will be minimal in the coming fortnight, with a sustained period of dry and bright weather expected.

Cathal Nolan of Ireland’s Weather Channel said “we’ve been waiting quite some time for a forecast like this” as he explained that the final spells of wet weather should clear by Saturday morning, with high pressure set to bring settled and sunny conditions for the foreseeable future, reports The Mirror.

Sharing the “excellent forecast” with followers on Friday evening, Nolan said: “On the cusp of the weekend and indeed we are on the cusp of a transition towards much more settled condition and at times milder weather as well, even potentially warmer weather as we get towards the second half of next week.

“It is going to be a rather pleasant 10, 14 days ahead of us in terms of the weather. We’ve been waiting quite some time for a forecast like this and it’s not disappointing now that it is here”, reports The Mirror.

He continued: “High pressure is about to become the dominant driver of our weather over the next while once we lose these showers that are about to cross the country at the moment – indeed, into the start of Saturday there will be one or two showers about,” reports The Mirror.

“We have high pressure building which is going to continue to push up across the country so after a relatively fine, dry weekend, into the start of next week, we see that high pressure shifting a little bit further to the north and allowing an easterly flow to develop”, reports The Mirror.

“That will be come a relatively fresh easterly flow by Tuesday and Wednesday, so a little cooler on those days. But there after, a ridge of high pressure extends across the country and we will see our winds switch to a more southeasterly direction. Winds will fall light, we will see clear skies once again and we see plenty in the way of sunshine. So an excellent forecast overall”, reports The Mirror.

Met Éireann has also predicted largely dry and sunny conditions, stating that the country can expect “mostly settled [weather] next week due to high pressure close to Ireland,” with only “a few showers at times”, reports The Mirror.
