Prince Harry has stated that King Charles refuses to speak with him due to his ongoing legal battle over UK security, although he still hopes for a “reconciliation” with his family, reports RTE.
In a BBC television interview following a court defeat, the 40-year-old royal described the issue as “a family dispute at its core,” a remark that could further strain his relationships with King Charles and Prince William.
When questioned about whether Charles had been asked to get involved in his legal matters, Harry seemed to suggest that the monarch had been more of a barrier than a help, reports RTE.
He remarked: “I’ve never asked him to intervene, I’ve asked him to step out of the way and let the experts do their job.”
The King’s cancer diagnosis was addressed by Harry, who said: “And I said, life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has, he, he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile,” reports RTE.
Extending a conciliatory gesture, Harry said he could “forgive my family’s involvement,” mentioning Charles, William, and Camilla in reference to the events that began when he started dating Meghan in 2016.

Tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family escalated significantly after their Oprah Winfrey interview, in which they claimed that a royal had expressed concern over their son Archie’s skin colour before his birth, reports RTE.
Further revelations came in Harry’s memoir Spare, where he alleged William had physically attacked him, accused the King of prioritising his own image, and said Charles was envious of Meghan.
During promotional interviews for the book, Harry also criticised Camilla, calling her “dangerous” for her media ties and saying she tried to rehabilitate her public image at his expense.
Harry’s security status changed in 2020 when he and Meghan stepped down from royal duties and relocated to California. He suggested that royal officials expected the increased risk would pressure them to return, reports RTE.
After recently losing a Court of Appeal case regarding his UK security, Harry stated in the interview that he “can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK.”
His legal challenge against the Home Office’s decision—based on advice from the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec)—argued that he deserved a higher level of protection while in the UK, but it was dismissed, reports RTE.
“But 2020, when that decision happened, I couldn’t believe it. I actually couldn’t believe it,” Harry said, reports RTE.
He continued: “I thought, with all the disagreements and all of the chaos that’s happening, the one thing that I could rely on is my family keeping me safe. And not only did they decide to remove my security in the UK, but they also signalled to every single government around the world not to protect us,” reports RTE.
He also told the BBC: “Everybody knew that they were putting us at risk in 2020 and they hoped that me knowing that risk would force us to come back,” reports RTE.
