British Airways and Lufthansa, two of Europe’s largest air carriers, have temporarily suspended all scheduled flights to Cairo in Egypt, citing ‘security concerns’.
The BA flight runs from Heathrow once a day. It is understood that this scheduled flight is now suspended for seven days. Passengers affected can either be accommodated in alternative flights, or get a refund.
Lufthansa also suspended all scheduled flights to the Egyptian capital, but it is believed the flights will resume shortly.
Tourism was one of Egypt’s main sources of income, but the industry has been in steady decline due to political and civil unrest in recent years.
