British Airways retires its Boeing 747 fleet four years earlier than planned due to the pandemic

British Airways has decided to retire its Boeing 747 fleet four years earlier than planned due to the pandemic.

The ‘jumbo jet’ has been in operation with the airline since 1989, but the sharp downturn in air travel in recent months has prompted British Airways to permanently retire the iconic aircraft from service.

Virgin Atlantic will also retire its remaining 747s in the near future.
