British Government warned as Barnier states that a precise and clear solution must be made when it comes to the Irish border

The Irish Government have said they welcome Michel Barnier’s comments on the Irish border following the UK’s exit from the EU.

It is understood the recognition comes after Mr Barnier outlined on Friday that the British must make a precise, clear and unambiguous solution when it comes the Irish border following their exit from the EU.

Mr Barnier’s comments were made following the second round of negotiations in Brussels this week. The latest discussions which mainly focused on the UK’s transition phase, were seemingly undermined by Mr Barnier on Thursday after he stated any failure in negotiations by the British Government would be disastrous for the Irish border.

Mr Barnier claimed that if the British Government proceeded with its plans to leave the single market and the customs union, the border situation on the island of Ireland would be changed for ever as they would have no choice but to implement unavoidable border checks.

Meanwhile the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator also said the British Government must accept all EU rules and obligations if they want to an agreement and an easy transition.
