Bruises on 85-yr-old patient in University Hospital Limerick couldn’t be explained, inquest hears

Bruises and abrasions found on an elderly patient on a staffed ward at University Hospital Limerick (UHL) remain unexplained, an inquest at Limerick Coroner’s Court has revealed, reports The Mirror.

Michael Power (85), Urregar, Kilmallock, was found unconscious by a nurse in his single room in Ward 8C on March 13, 2021 at approximately 10:30 am.

When he was found unconscious in his room, staff noticed bruises and cuts on Mr Power’s head and body.

Mr Pawar’s family received his medical records and CCTV footage from Ward 8C on the morning of his death.

There was a medical assistant (HCA) on the unit and the nurses requested an additional HCA to provide one-to-one care to Mr. Power, but none were available.

An autopsy on March 16 found that Power, who was predeceased by his wife Claire Power, died of sudden cardiopulmonary failure combined with severe restrictive lung disease, reports The Mirror.
