His Royal Highness Prince Philip passed away peacefully on Friday morning at Windsor Castle, a statement from the Royal Family said.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he “inspired the lives of countless young people”.
The palace said further announcements would be made “in due course” in relation to his funeral.
“The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss,” the statement added.
Tributes have poured in from around the world with crowds gathering outside both Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace upon the announcement.
Buckingham Palace have announced that Prince Philip’s funeral will take place at Window Castle in a private ceremony of 30 people, in accordance to covid regulations, at 3pm on Saturday, April 17th.
The funeral will be broadcast around the world with the public asked to watch the ceremony rather than gather outside Windsor Castle.
