The fast food chain Burger King has come under fire after a tweet was shared in the UK on International Women’s Day.
It is believed that the company caused backlash after they tweeted that “women belong in the kitchen” in an attempt to draw attention to the lack of female chefs in the restaurant business.
Although the company later moved to clarify the original tweet with the following message: If they want to, of course.” “Yet only 20% of chefs are women. We’re on a mission to change the gender ratio in the restaurant industry by empowering female employees with the opportunity to pursue a culinary career.”
The tweets faced widespread criticism after many on the social media networking site accused the company of using sexism as clickbait, whilst others labelled it as a poor attempt at marketing.
