The former leader of the Labour party Joan Burton has claimed that the newly formed Government’s much hyped Programme for the Irish people does not look after the vulnerable in our society.
Ms Burton says the Government should focus on those who are on middle to low income earners as they are being hit the most during Ireland’s slow recovery.
The former Tanaiste also believes that the new document is clearly catered for a specific group of people and that a whole lot more needs to done to protect the less well-off in society.
Ms Burton told reporters: “As Ireland continues to enjoy economic progress, the fruits of the economic progress should be shared particularly among people on low and middle incomes.”
“That should be the abiding principal. I’m sure how heavy committed the program is to that.”
