Bus and rail staff say that they ‘won’t police’ the wearing of face masks

Bus and rail staff have said that they ‘won’t police’ the wearing of face masks.

Face coverings will be mandatory on Irish public transport from Monday. People who defy the rules might face a €2,500 fine or six months in prison.

However, a union representing bus and rail drivers has confirmed that its members won’t enforce the rule to avoid potential confrontations that might ‘compromise the safe operation of their service.’
