Bus Eireann union members to meet later this week to discuss inevitable strike action

Union chiefs at Bus Eireann have confirmed over the weekend that it’s members will hold a meeting later this week to discuss the prospect of strike action in the coming weeks ahead.

The news of the scheduled meeting comes after trade union members at the company revealed that strike action is all but inevitable given recent cuts imposed by management at the company.

It is believed that union members will discuss the prospect of holding a ballot on whether or not to undertake industrial action ahead of the proposed cuts which are set to be introduced on February 20th.

A spokesperson for the union revealed that all staff at the company will see their pay cut by 10%, Sunday premium pay slashed by 80%, shift premium payments scrapped, and further cuts to sick pay and overtime.

Bus Eireann say the imposed cuts are needed as the company could face insolvency within 18 months, after suffering record losses in 2016.

However union chiefs say it’s members will figure the decision even if it means undertaking unwanted industrial action.
