Cabinet Ministers will receive additional security which will mean additional bodyguards, Gardai and special vehicles

Cabinet ministers are due to get more security protection to take into account after a security review by the Gardai.

For some time the Taoiseach, Tanaiste, Justice and Foreign Ministers already receive security.  It is thought that a number of Ministers have already received additional security.  These include the Minister for Public Expenditure, Michael McGrath, Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly and Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe.

According to RTE, a number of events, including protests outside Ministers’ homes have encouraged an increase of security.  The Irish Mail on Sunday has also confirmed that an extra 40 Gardai will be needed for the additional security.

The Minister for Justice Helen McEntee spoke about the matter today at Dublin Castle when she said that a Garda Siochana report had been prepared and would be considered.
