A female bus driver in Cork told delegates at the National Bus and Rail Union’s (NBRU) biennial conference in Cork that she was verbally, racially and mentally abused by a gang of teenagers who got onto her bus on Halloween night in 2019.

She said that a gang of teenage thugs stood in front of her bus with alcoholic drinks. She said that it was a nightmare, that they threatened her on the bus, said they’d follow her home, rape her and hurt her family.

She rang the gardai who also got abused by the teenage thugs.

The Romanian national said that she hasn’t been the same since and that it really affected her very badly as a person.

There now have been fresh calls for dedicated transport police to be on such public transport vehicles in an effort to stamp out the behaviour of these thugs.
