Canada announces new legislation that will allow euthanasia for the terminally ill

There is a major new law set to be introduced in Canada in the coming months ahead as the country’s Government voted overwhelmingly in favour to make it legal for terminally sick people to be assisted in dying.

The new legislation which will now go through a number of channels before being officially introduced was announced earlier today after Senators voted 44-28 in favour of the bill.

The new law will only allow for gravely ill people to be assisted in death even Ahough many campaigned for the inclusion of people with degenerative conditions be included in the bill.

The decision was welcomed by both Canadian Minister for Justice Jody Wilson-Raybould and Minister for Health Jane Philpott who spoke about the positive effects of such a ruling, they said: “It gives dying patients who are suffering intolerably while in decline on a path toward death the choice of a medically assisted death.”
