Having originally planned a fun Harry Potter book quiz for their book festival, the organisers of the Booktown Karukatea Festival in New Zealand have cancelled the quiz citing a “risk around causing distress to particular members of the community.”

According to the Irish Mirror, the Featherston Booktown Karukatea Festival chairman Peter Biggs said they did not come to their decision lightly, and had consulted with members of the literary sector, local supporters, and members of the LGBTQ community.

The Harry Potter author, JK Rowling was accused of “transphobia” last year when she objected to the term “People who menstruate” being used in a campaign to combat period poverty;
“‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

The ensuing attacks by trans activists on the author continue.
