Cannot wait: Katie Taylor says undisputed title victory would surpass Olympic Gold medal achievement

Katie Taylor has said she cannot wait for Saturday’s showdown with Delfine Persoon, and has stated that a win in her lightweight unification fight would be a better achievement than her heroics at the London Olympics in 2012.

Taylor who has the chance to become the first ever Irish person to win all four titles in the division, told Sky Sports that Saturday’s fight is the fight she always wanted.

Although the Bray native admits the fight is the most difficult she has faced, she said she is ready for the challenge.

Taylor who was full of admiration for her opponent told the broadcaster that she wants to make history and to become undisputed champion is the pinnacle of boxing and to secure a victory would surpass her Gold medal achievement at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Taylor’s comments comes ahead of a bumper night of boxing this Saturday as Britain’s Anthony Joshua is set to defend his heavyweight title against Andy Ruiz Junior, in Madison Square Garden.

All the action on a stacked undercard is expected to get underway at 10pm this Saturday June 1st, on Sky Sports Box Office.
