Car driver in UK is released without charge after hitting man who was stabbing his ex-wife

A man attempted to stop an attacker from stabbing a woman in the UK has been freed without charge.

According to RTE, the man was arrested for allegedly knocking down a man who had stabbed his ex-wife in the middle of the day in January of this year. The incident took place in Maida Vale, northwest London.

Leon McCaskre had attacked his ex-wife Yasmin Chkaifi and bystanders were unable to stop him until the man drove his car into them.  McCaskre and Chkaifi were both pronounced dead at the scene.

A petition was signed by more that 75,000 people who insisted that the man driving should not be charged with murder and instead was a hero.  He is now said to be vital witness to the event.  Detective Chief Inspector Neil Rawlinson, who led the investigation, said that the man is now receiving help so that he can get over the horrific incident.

The man’s lawyer expressed his thanks on twitter, saying that his client was extremely grateful for the public’s support at this trying time.
