Car wash worker in Monaghan denied bail over alleged assault of partner in her own car

A car wash worker accused of attacking his partner inside her vehicle in Co Monaghan has been refused bail.

Caolan Myers, aged 26, of Threemilehouse, Monaghan, was charged with assault causing harm and, with no local court sitting available, was brought before Judge Michael Ramsey at Dublin District Court on Saturday, reports Breaking News.

He faced bail objections from Garda Gavin Kelly, who cited the seriousness of the incident, which took place on Thursday.

Garda Kelly alleged the accused had been aggressive toward the woman and that she subsequently received a punch to her chest and to the left side of her face, resulting in bruising, swelling and a laceration requiring stitches, reports Breaking News.

Judge Ramsey heard that the woman submitted her assault report on 4 June.

The accused was arrested the following day, reports Breaking News.

It was also confirmed that a child was present in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Garda Kelly said the woman did not attend the bail hearing but had reported that she was traumatised and living in fear, reports Breaking News.

When cross-examined by defence solicitor Kate McGhee, the garda said he could not explain why the complainant was not present, though she had been made aware the hearing was taking place.

Her medical report was still outstanding, reports Breaking News.

He also conceded that he had not spoken directly with the accused about how the woman felt regarding bail, and accepted he was relying on information from a colleague. He further confirmed the accused was not already on bail for any other matters.

McGhee argued for bail with conditions, including a no-contact order, submitting that her client was in employment, had a stable address available, and was entitled to the presumption of innocence, reports Breaking News.

However, the bail application was refused and Myers was remanded in custody, with a further court appearance scheduled for the following week.

Legal aid was granted, reports Breaking News.
