Car window smashed in to save dog left in sweltering heat in the UK

Police in the UK have rescued a dog from a car when he was left behind by his owners.

According to the Daily Mail, officers were forced to smash in the window of the BMW X5 due to the fact that it was locked and the dog would not be able to withstand much more heat. Even so, it took several attempts to free the dog. Police first tried to break the glass with a baton but this didn’t work. Bashing at the window with a hammer was also unsuccessful.

Finally, a man on the scene was able to free the dog and he received a standing ovation from the crowd that had gathered at the scene.

Tragically, this incident, which happened in Southend-on-Sea in Essex, is not the first time police have been called to rescue animals left in cars in searing heat and further warnings have been issued to the public, advising them that dogs and other animals should not be left in cars as they need to be in cooler environments.
