Acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s negotiations to form a government are going nowhere fast.
The mood of Independent TDs is wavering, and most are likely to walk away from the table without offering their support to anyone. The Green Party deputies have already abandoned hopes of agreement, stating that they will not go into government with either Fine Gael or Fianna Fail.
In response to the impending rout, Enda Kenny said: “It’s a Fine Gael minority, or another election.’
Fianna Fail, meanwhile, have again insisted that Enda Kenny should contact them, not the other way around, if talks on the formation of a governmnt are to take place at all.
Despite these claims, it looks likely that some sort of agreement between the two major parties is inevitable.
