Vicky Phelan has been awarded the Freedom of Limerick.
According to RTE, a special ceremony was planned to give Ms. Phelan the award. She has been an inspiration to people throughout the country and spoke about how she is delighted, as the fifth woman to receive the award, to be able to “highlight that women are well up there with the likes of Paul O’Connell and all the other people who went before me.”
She also said that she is feeling well right now and she puts this down to her excellent medical team who are all working so well together. Speaking about the support that she has received from the public, she described it as “phenomenal” and said that something comes in the post every day.
