A Polish non profit sponsored and assisted more than 200 eastern Europeans who came to Ireland for employment only to find themselves in a nightmare of destitution, addiction, and homelessness. This year, the charity aims to expand beyond Dublin into Cork and Limerick, reports Independent.

Barka acknowledged that since the conclusion of the Covid-19 outbreak and the inflation crisis, demand for its support services in Ireland had exceeded its capacity.

The prospect of homelessness is facing hundreds of migrant workers in Ireland as a result of rising rents and inflation.

Many people have developed addiction issues as a result of the stress of dealing with this, reports Independent.

Barka is a nonprofit organisation that was founded in Poland to assist the impoverished following the fall of communism. It assists those with addiction and health issues.

Most importantly, it facilitates people’s reconnection with their domestic support systems of friends and family.

Over a decade and a half ago, Barka started its activities in Dublin, Ireland, reports Independent.

Barka’s senior UK project manager, Andrew Keogh, reported that over the past several years, demand for their services has increased significantly in Ireland.

“We have been working with the Dublin City Council for nearly 12 years. As in London, Barka develops close relations with foreign embassies in Dublin as well as other charities such as the Simon Community, the Franciscans, the Capuchins, the Merchants Quay Project and others. We have an office space on Dominic Street in Dublin and Barka workers visit hospitals, clinics, prisons such as Wheatfield, Mountjoy, Portlaoise as well as homelessness day-care centres,” he said, reports Independent.
