Charlie Hebdo with Muhammad on the cover sells rapidly following attack

The newest edition of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo has been selling rapidly. The ‘survivors’ edition’ carries a picture of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad on the cover. The print run for the magazine has been increased from 60,000 to 1 million.

The controversial cover shows the Muslim prophet shedding a tear and holding a sign saying ‘Je Suis Charlie’. Above his head is the French phrase meaning ‘All is forgiven’. Moderate Muslim leaders in France and Britain have advised believers not to unnecessarily overreact to the image.

France is still recovering from the shock of the attack on the offices of the irreverent magazine, where gunmen broke into the building, demanded certain writers by name and murdered several cartoonists.
