It may have been the Winter Solstice this morning but people in the South of the country also got to see something special as a Aurora Borealis lit up the night skies last night and the early hours of this morning.
The phenomenon was announced by Astronomy Ireland late last week, who claimed the magnificent event would materialise Sunday night.
The phenomenon was confirmed by David Moore of Astronomy Ireland who said: “We had reports from Waterford, Cork, Kerry, the west coast and Donegal and I photographed them here in Dublin. “The earth’s magnetic field turned southwards for a 24-hour period, sucking all the radiation from a solar storm into the north and south poles.”
