About 200 people gathered outside Newgrange in Co. Meath to celebrate the winter solstice.

The famous tomb is usually lit up with sunlight at dawn on December 21st each year, with people from all over the country competitive for a spot to see the spectacle. Unfortunately for those that were lucky enough to be present today, dull and cloudy conditions blocked out the sun.

The weather prevented light from filling the inner chamber of the tomb. Around 50 people were inside the chamber waiting to see the spectacle after they won tickets through the allocated ticketing system.
