A pint of Guinness will cost a bit more from next month as beverage giant Diageo has confirmed it will raise prices, reports RTE.
The increase, which will be equal to five cents a pint including VAT, will apply to brands such as Guinness, Smithwicks, Rockshore, Harp, Hop House 13 and Carlsberg.
Diageo cited rising business costs as the reason for the price increase, which will take effect on August 14.
“We continue to experience rising input costs across our business operations in Ireland,” said a Diageo spokesperson, reports RTE.
VFI’s interim chief executive, Padraig Cribben, said Diageo’s argument made no sense.
“Diageo took 12 cent price increase back in February, and now this is another 4 cent increase on top of that. It’s very hard to see what has changed between February and now,” he told Newstalk radio, reports Breaking News.
