It never rains, it pours. That’s definitely the feeling around Donnybrook right now because of the Ryan Tubridy pay scandal.

Just when the story seemed to have disappeared from the front page, more public outrage was directed at the national broadcaster. This time it was related to sound problems during the broadcast of Ireland’s World Cup opener against Australia, reports The Mirror.

In the first half of the match, viewers were furious at the lack of coordination between the images and the commentary. There were near-constant audio pauses and repetitive sentences from commentator duo George Hamilton and Stephanie Zambra.

Viewers were quick to criticize the broadcaster, with many expressing their anger on Twitter.

One disgruntled viewer tweeted, “RTÉ you are a joke!!! I’ve had to switch over to ITV to watch this match as the sound and picture are out of sync. Another good reason to cancel my TV license”, reports The Mirror.

Another made a sartirical reference to the Tubridy scandal, “Wonder would Tubridys RTE bonus cover some proper audio equipment for a World Cup game”, reports The Mirror.

“Another bad day for #RTE Having to watch a historic Irish sporting occasion on ITV because they can sync the sound.” tweeted one viewer, reports The Mirror.

RTE did issue a tweet apologising for the poor sound quality saying, “We’re aware of audio issues and working to rectify them as quickly as possible.” Something they were unable to achieve by half-time, reports The Mirror.
