China cuts the amount of time children are allowed play computer games and tries to stop ‘celebrity worshipping culture’

China’s government has demanded that its online gaming companies further reduce the services they offer to young gamers in an attempt to pull back what the authorities call video game addiction for young people.

According to the state-run Xinhua News Agency, young gamers are only allowed to spend an hour playing online on Fridays, weekends and holidays.

The rules published by the National Press and Publications Administration stated that users under the age of 18 could only play games at 8pm at 9pm Local time on these days.

Online gambling companies are not allowed to offer underage gambling services outside of these hours and must ensure they have systems in place to verify real names, the regulator that oversees the gambling market said in the country.

The government say that they’re also going to try and stamp out what they have described as ‘celebrity worshipping culture’.
