ITV have released a shocking interview with a doctor detailing the horrific treatment of Uighur people in China including forced abortions and removal of wombs.
Now based in Turkey, where many Uighurs now live in exile, the doctor said that in her twenty year medical career in China she carried out between 500 and 600 forced abortions on women from the minority Muslim group at the orders of the government.
She was also involved in the forced mass sterilisation, forced contraception, and the removal of wombs as part of Beijing’s efforts to eradicate the group. According to official Chinese records reported by ITV, the Uighur birth rate has plummeted by 60%.
Uighur people are a distinct Turkic ethnic group native to Western China, whose Muslim faith and unique culture have marked them as an enemy to the authoritarian state. An estimated one million Uighurs are currently detained in prison camps in Xinjiang province.
