Nancy Pelosi has sparked allegations of hypocrisy after visiting a San Francisco indoor hair salon without wearing a face mask.
The Speaker of the House, who is the highest ranking elected Democrat in the US, had previously blasted Donald Trump for not wearing a mask. According to the BBC, she had previously advised the American public to wear a mask in public, especially when physical distancing is difficult.
However, this didn’t stop her flaunting those rules herself in her home city of San Francisco, where indoor salons are not currently allowed to even open. A spokesman for the politician said that Pelosi didn’t realise she was breaking the rules.
This recent scandal will come as a blow to Democrats as the US gears up for a divisive Presidential election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden in the midst of a global pandemic and nationwide civil unrest.
