Christianphobia? YouTube reportedly bans word “Christian” from advertisement but allows others such as “Muslim”

YouTube’s new ad policy is now flagging the word “Christian” as unacceptable in its advertisement targeting policy.

Chad Robichaux, founder of the Mighty Oaks Foundation, a Christian Veterans Group in the US received the rejection form YouTube for the ad he had intended to place on the platform because it featured the keyword “Christian”.

Robichaux, who heads the charitable Christian organisation aimed at helping veterans overcome trauma and PTSD, rejected Google’s explanation that the company recognises the privacy of religion, so it does not “allow advertisers to target users on the basis of religion”.

Robichaux said the company’s statement was demonstrably false as he had used the keyword multiple times before in the past and tried running the same ad just replacing the word “Christian” with “Muslim” and this caused no issues.

On Twitter Robichaux said

“We ran the exact same ad with the keyword “Muslim” & it was approved but “Christian” was not. Additionally, we’ve ran ads with the keyword “Christian” for years. This year alone we had 150,000 impressions on that word in our ads. As per your support line this is a new restriction”.

YouTube and its parent company, Google, have long been accused of pushing a biased agenda against conservatives, Christians and Trump supporters with this latest scandal adding credence to those suspicions. The tech goliath now faces several anti-trust investigations in the US.

After Robichaux demonstrated the falseness of their first statement Google has yet to comment publicly on the matter again.
