Christmas party in Norway for only vaccinated people sees large number of them get covid

At least 13 people in Oslo were infected with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus after a corporate Christmas party known as a so-called super spreader party, and the number could rise to more than 60 cases, authorities say.

The outbreak occurred during a Christmas party on November 26 hosted by South African renewable energy company Scatec, where the variant was first discovered.

According to Reuters, “This party has been a superspreader event,” said Preben Aavitsland, senior doctor at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

“Our working hypothesis is that at least half of the 120 participants were infected with the Omicron variant during the party. This makes this, for now, the largest Omicron outbreak outside South Africa.”

In addition to those infected at the party, Aavitsland said, two people living on the country’s west coast and two people in quarantine at Oslo airport were confirmed to be carriers of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
