Israel razed a northern Gaza neighbourhood after giving families a half-hour warning to flee and struck an Orthodox Christian church where others had sought refuge, making clear it expected an order to attack Gaza soon, reports RTE.

The UN Secretary-General visited the crossing between besieged Gaza and Egypt and said humanitarian aid should be allowed as quickly as possible.

Israel has vowed to destroy the Islamist group Hamas, which rules Gaza, after Israeli gunmen attacked Israeli cities and kibbutzim on October 7, killing 1,400 people, reports RTE.

Israel carried out airstrikes on Gaza and placed the enclave’s 2.3 million inhabitants under a total siege, even banning supplies of food, fuel and medical supplies.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that at least 4,137 Palestinians have been killed and 13,000 injured in Gaza since October 7.

The United Nations says more than a million have been left homeless, reports RTE.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited checkpoints on the Egyptian side and called for a significant number of trucks to enter Gaza daily and for quick and realistic checks.

“We are actively engaging with all parties to make sure conditions for delivering aid are lifted,” he said, reports RTE.
