Contrary to much social media speculation and commentary, the Church of Sweden did not proclaim that Greta Thunberg was the “successor” of Jesus Christ.
It had been reported that they tweeted:
“Announcement! Jesus of Nazareth has now appointed one of his successors, Greta Thunberg”, the Church of Limhamn tweeted on December 1st, 2018.
However, they were quick to rebuke it with a follow up tweet that roughly translated to:
Dear Twitter,
If we have hurt someone we apologize, it has never been our opinion. Our sense has been to talk about Jesus Christ in our own way. Now we leave the arena. Thank you for your commitment, joy and debate.
