14-yr-old girl dead after smartphone exploded on her pillow after leaving it charging overnight

A 14-year-old schoolgirl has died after her smartphone was charging and exploded on her pillow while she slept.

Alua Asetkyzy Abzalbek went to bed and listened to music at her village in Bastobe, Kazakhstan.

The next morning, she was sadly found dead when the phone’s battery burst into flames and burned beside her head.

Her smartphone was plugged into an outlet at the time, police say.

She tragically suffered serious head injuries and died from the explosion at the scene.

When her destroyed parents called paramedics, they said she was already dead when they arrived.

Forensic experts later confirmed that the phone had exploded early in the morning after overheating, which was the cause of death, according to local reports.

The smartphone brand has not been revealed with her death described as “utterly tragic”.

People are advised not to leave their smartphone plugged in at night and are asked to share this information with their friends.
