Cigarette factory closure in Westmeath results in the loss of 87 jobs

Imperial Tobacco has announced the closure of one its manufacturing factories in the Midlands, with the loss of 87 jobs.

A spokesperson for the company has said that all staff will lose their job in October next. The same person said that the closure is the direct result of European regulations that dictate a 30g minimum pack size for rolling tobacco.

It is understood that manufacturing will now move to the Netherlands.
