According to the Irish Times, the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, has told the International Protection Appeals Tribunal (IPAT) “act urgently” in relation to one of its 66 listed immigration lawyers, Una McGurk, who spoke at Saturday’s rally in Dublin opposing the government’s Draconian lockdown measures.

Una McGurk is a senior counsel and barrister and spoke the Custom House rally where she railed against the government’s Orwellian measures and said that face coverings should not be mandatory.

The rally drew considerable condemnation from the political establishment with both members of the government and the opposition now seeking to punish McGurk for exercising her constitutional right to free speech.

The fact that groups such as the Irish Freedom Party, who oppose open borders, were among those who helped organise the rally and provide speakers, has been sized upon by establishment voices to undermine McGurk’s position with IPAT.

Minister for Children, Roderic O’Gorman, himself just recently at the centre of controversy over his association with accused, alleged paedophilia advocate Peter Tatchell and his support for allowing children to change their gender tweeted:

“It is vital that all members of the IPAT are objective in their work and that they are seen to be objective. I’ve raised my concerns over yesterday’s protest with Minister McEntee and I’ll be keeping in contact with her about this issue.”

Meanwhile Sinn Féin justice spokesman Martin Kenny told Newstalk in relation to McGurk’s appearance at the rally:

“This whole situation where we have groups there, right-wing groups who are denying COVID-19 exists and encouraging people not to wear face masks and to breach all the health guidelines that have been put down is very concerning, And to see somebody who was appointed by the Government on to the International Protection Appeals Tribunal speaking at it is something that, I think, is even more concerning.”

More such rallies are planned for Dublin however, it has not yet confirmed if Ms McGurk will be speaking at them.
