Over 400 staff lost their jobs yesterday evening as famous Dublin department store Clerys closed its doors for the last time. All were told the store was going into liquidation, and that was that.
Earlier this afternoon, the staff, supported by SIPTU members, marched from Liberty Hall to the store on O’Connell St. to voice their anger.
Workers were told that the store’s new owners had put the store into liquidation after multi million losses over the years.
Employees are currently uncertain of their future, and do not know if they will get owed wages or redundancy payments.
