
Nearly 200 adult asylum seekers were housed in facilities meant for children over the last three years, reports Breaking News.
Tusla had assigned the adults to children’s care placements prior to confirming they were over 18. There have been 86 such instances so far this year.
According to the Irish Independent, the number of immigrants who sought international protection as minors but were later ruled ‘ineligible’ due to their age has more than doubled since 2023, reports Breaking News.
The paper said the information emerges after male charged with murder of boy (17) at Tusla facility is now believed to be an adult.
Speaking on Newstalk, Aontú leader Peader Tóibín said it is unacceptable.
“This is absolutely shocking and, again, we believe that Tusla and the immigration services are not doing their job properly to actually fully check the age of individuals,” he said, reports Breaking News.
