Syrup maker Oliver Grace, the Dubliner who invented one of Ireland’s most recognized drinks, has sadly passed away aged 96.

Mr. Grace came up with the idea for Club Orange back in the 1930s, and the drink went from strength to strength, eventually becoming one of Ireland’s most iconic brands.

According to a statement on the company website: “Unlike competitors, Grace insisted that the whole of the orange should be used, including the juice, pith and the rind.

“This unique idea was an instant success as people loved the delicious combination of sweet orange juice and real fruit bits.

“The brand has grown from strength to strength over the decades and today Club is one of the top 20 brands in the country, as measured by Nielsen in the Checkout Top 100 brands publication.”

The father of six was laid to rest in Esker cemetery, after a requiem mass this morning.
